The first track of the Anbenum Peruvali Album, This manifesto-like song is from Sixth Thirumurai of Thiruvarutpa. Vallalar’s entire poetic oeuvre has 5818 songs and is divided into six Thirumurais or compendiums. Thirumurai classifications of Vallalar are vastly different from the 12 Thirumurais that constitute the conservative Saivite literature in Tamil that includes Thevaram and Thiruvasagam. The 121th song speaks about the need to do things now rather than endlessly waiting for an ideal, auspicious time. It also rejects the orthodoxy of literal interpretations of the text and yearns for an inclusive spirituality that is opposed to all forms of bigotry. Vallalar moves away from all forms of exclusiveness to create a new space for an inclusive spiritual quest that valued empathy. This song was sung by singer Sanjay Subrahmanyan in collaboration with the music composer Sean Roldan. Anbenum Peruveli was commissioned by Metakovan aka Vignesh Sundaresan and conceived by Onemai Foundation.
