Artist: [Kenny Varden](https://twitter.com/KennyVaden) RIFT is a long-form system that I originally composed during the pandemic as zoom calls, disappearing friendships, isolation, and loneliness set in. Symmetrical, peeling layers represent the social splintering and losses that seemed endless. The algorithm creates the wave structures based on spline interpolation connecting sparse points, which covary across layers to form flowing textures. Interleaved light or dark layers create strong contrasts with random colors taken from a broad spectrum gradient to produce unique yet related palettes for each output. Together, the elements of RIFT tell the story of our new world building over an older and deeper one through peeling color waves.
